Consent

This project during my final year was a build-up to my FMP, based on the key adult theme of consent. This concept derived from a variation of research, key visual photography and sampling to evoke ideas of power and femininity. I used a range of technical embroidery skills to evoke contrasts of delicacy and power. I mainly used to hand embroidery with silk shading and goldwork wire, but also explored fabric manipulation and stumpwork to build 3D surfaces.

Urban Wonderland (New Designers)

This project was completed during the first lockdown of 2020, where I explored the idea of nature in cities and architectural structures. I used photography of flora, and was inspired by cityscapes where nature has become more integrated into the landscape, such as in Singapore. I experimented with a vibrant colour palette and alternative, sustainable embellishments such as cork and sequin waste, although the finalised design focused mainly on colour gradients with silk shading - this was later constructed into a jewellery piece.

Literary Romance (Bradford Design Competition)

This project was inspired by fictional, female protagonist characters created in historical literature. Inspired by authors and enchanted themes, such as Lewis Carroll (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland) Louisa May Alcott (Little women) and William Morris florals, the project has a dark and whimsical mood with colour palette to match. I used hand embellishment with ribbonry beading and silk shading.

'Celestial' Bridal Veil

In this mini project, I had the pleasure of creating a wedding veil to accommodate with a subtle 'Celestial' theme. I used Wilcom digital embroidery to replicate stars, which populated the tulle and created the headpiece, with subtle hand beading. This was a great experience in working to a tight deadline to produce a bespoke piece. Wedding Photography by Paul Pryce.

'Edge of Utopia' Collaboration

In this project, I worked alongside students from other creative specialisms to create a bespoke fashion collection, alongside branding and hypothetical  show. Due to Covid-19 restrictions we were worked remotely, and this produced the digital outcome of our project 'Edge of Utopia'. I worked alongside costume designers Caitlin Madden and Lucia Duffin as a design team, where I created embroidered (and some print) outcomes on Bernina and by hand to represents our dreamy, positive brand outcomes. Drawings edited, original sketches by  Lucia Duffin and Caitlin Madden.
