Bravado
For my FMP, I explored the idea of feeling watched/followed and feeling unsafe in darker hours. I drew on my own personal experiences of walking home. The aim of this collection was to raise awareness safety within our society, particularly after the distressing events regarding Sarah Everard, and to initiate discussion of feeling fearful in your environment.
I used the idea of making myself appear physically larger than normal, when in reality I feel vulnerable and fearful. I focused on intensity and contrast, and explored sampling with hardening surfaces at exaggerated scales with a bold colour palette to create dramatic statements. I used various techniques of hand embroidery, digital embroidery and manipulation to create rough textural surfaces and beautiful hand-made embellishments to highlight tension.
